Yoga

During your Holiday with Trafalgar Surf you will have the opportunity to join in our regular Yoga lessons.  Each week we hold five afternoon sessions on the beach or in the park, depending on your personal preference!

Our Yoga teacher Laura trained at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica.  She is also one of your Surf Instructors, so has an excellent understanding of the connection between Yoga and Surfing.  Hatha Yoga is taught in the classes but each lesson is tailored to the student’s needs and level.  During the classes you will practice relaxation techniques, breathing exercises and a series of postures to increase your strength, flexibility, balance and concentration.

There are various options you can take with Yoga.  You can choose the full ‘Surf + Yoga’ package which includes five morning surf lessons and five afternoon yoga sessions.  If you’re a non-surfer, you can choose the ‘Yoga only’ package where you’ll have the mornings free and Yoga sessions in the afternoon.  If you just want to try a class to see how you get on, you can pay for the classes individually.

Yoga compliments surfing perfectly, as it does with any sport.  But yoga does more than just make you more flexible; it improves your quality of life by balancing your mind and energising your body.

Here are the main advantages of practicing yoga for surfing:

  1. Stretches and relaxes tight or tense muscles, meaning quicker recovery between sessions.
  2. Increased flexibility, so you’re quicker to your feet and capable or more manoeuvres.
  3. Improves your fitness and power, helping you to catch more waves (the more waves you catch the faster you improve).
  4. Improves your balance, allowing you to attempt new moves with more success!
  5. A calmer mind in the water helps you to focus.  It also gives you more confidence in challenging conditions.
